Embroidery or print? Find the right finish.

A practical guide to choosing a finish that suits your logo, garments and working day.

Start with the garment and the artwork.

A tidy chest logo on a polo and a bold message across a T-shirt back can call for different approaches. Choose the finish around the fabric, design, placement and how the clothing will be worn.

EMBROIDERY

A stitched, textured finish.

Worth discussing for compact logos and lettering on polos, fleece layers, body warmers and suitable jackets. Fine lettering or very dense designs may need simplifying.

PRINT

A flexible starting point for graphics.

Worth discussing for larger designs, detailed artwork and lightweight tops. Print is a family of methods; the right process depends on the fabric and design.

Embroidery versus print: a practical comparison.

ArtworkSimple shapes and readable lettering are useful starting points.Discuss detailed graphics, colour blends and larger artwork.
PlacementSmall chest logos are a common option; seams and pockets can limit access.Front and back designs can offer more space, subject to the garment.

CareConfirm the combined garment and decoration care instructions. Neither method is automatically right for every wash routine.

These are starting points, not confirmation that every garment supports either method.

What to bring to the conversation.

  • Your clearest logo file. Keep the original artwork if you have it. A screenshot can help explain the idea, but production may need a better file.
  • Position and approximate size. A chest logo, sleeve detail and large back design are separate requirements. Let us know which matter most.
  • Garments and colours. Check how your logo reads on each colour. One layout may not suit every item.
  • Quantities and care needs. Share the number of items, the working environment and any specialist laundry requirements.

Unsure which finish to choose?

Choose “Please advise” in the product branding steps. You can explain your preferred look without making the technical decision yourself.

Check the details before production.

Ask for the proposed decoration method, placement, dimensions and colours to be clear in the quotation and artwork approval. A digital mock-up explains the layout; it does not demonstrate the feel, fit or wash performance of the finished garment. Discuss sample arrangements where those details matter.

For protective or specialist garments, confirm decoration suitability for the exact item before agreeing a position or method.
